Help Me Stop Drinking!
You have been drinking too much these past years and you feel sick and tired of even looking at the bottle. You feel that this is the time for you to yell: “help me stop drinking”! With all the temptations that are present during you waking hours, how could you resist? By then, you would end up gulping another bottle leading to a lot more of it.
So, how do you go about fixing this problem—as alcoholism is a disease? Diseases are caused by identifiable causes and these are harmful and unhealthy. Any person like you can have a disease; we are but human beings and we are not invincible. But here’s the catch: diseases can be cured; there are cures to diseases and if you say that you are hooked on drinking alcohol, fine—be happy for there is a cure to that. There are remedies when you want to stop the alcoholic in you.
It is important to ask yourself the following questions, which by the way, had been answered by me. Try to compare your answers and see how you fare:
Q. Do I drink alcohol if I have problems?
A. If yes, definitely, you are stuck on it. It is your escape from reality. Always remember that in every problem there is a solution and that you have to find it by yourself in order to have results. Drinking liquor is not a solution as it causes more anxiety on your part and it can only aggravate the situation by not being able to think of ways to remedy the troubles that have been bothering you.
Q. Do I suffer memory loss while drunk?
A. If you cannot remember what you have been doing while you were drinking, yes, you are into it. Too much alcohol can cause our brain to malfunction and it is in this light that actions are forgotten and words spoken are not even remembered.
Q. Does it take more than five bottles of beer to get myself drunk?
A. If you answered yes, you are on your way to the road of booze; as normal people just drink one or two bottles either to satisfy curiosity or friends whom they haven’t seen for a while. Five bottles is way too far the normal capacity of a person.
Q. Have you ever attempted to shout: “help me stop drinking”?
A. If you have tried this, you have all the reasons to stop the habit of taking in too much alcohol. People will notice you and help will be available.
The need to know whether or not you are drinking too much could manage your current situation and apply the necessary strategies on cutting back or quitting forever.
Resolve:
Have a pen and paper and try to list down your reasons for drinking. Don’t be shy, it’s going to be you alone who’s going to read your list. Then, set a goal whether you’re planning to quit or cutting back on alcohol.
If you want to avoid negative consequences because of the habit, do it now, as it may have already caused your friends and family some difficulty in dealing with you. If you are married, you even have gotten divorce papers to sign.
Try to record the number of drinks you have had in each passing day if you are considering to cut back on this ill-substance; keeping track of it will show you your progress, and that might give you motivation enough in order to totally quit.
Do not stack alcohol inside the house. Having a stash of it might want you to drink again and it would disregard your goal.
If for some reasons you met friends who harass you by not drinking with them, learn to say no; and put a period to it—no other explanations made.
There are still a lot of ways to help you cut back or quit. It only takes a matter of considering your health, family, and society. Don’t waste time as time is the element. Furthermore, don’t think of going back to drinking as you may be shouting: “help me stop drinking” again—for the next time you shout, nobody will be there for you.
